I haven't been hacked but it came to a point where I know at least 5 people over the last year that have been hacked... and Guru spreads the paranoia. Would be nice to hear/read that they take our concerns about this seriously.

Regardless of whether or not we, the players, have to have our personal security in order, account protection is a must. Because people are fallible, security software may be fallible, something may go wrong somewhere, sometime. Stuff happens.
That shouldn't have to lead to an instant account death sentence. Anything that can be done to help with that, should be done. Player side and gameserver side.

Oh so signed.
Account security is a must and will affect my future purchases. After all, why would I risk spending money on a product that may just be stolen from me due to lack of protection?

Enough Is Enough. It's time to face this issue head on. No more hiding, no more excuses.

I've heard bad politicians make the exact same speech about damn near every issue they feel strongly about. It's rhetoric designed to invoke emotion and 'rally the troops'. It gets the crowd nodding.
"get the torches and pitchforks!"
There is no one who's going to vote 'no' to "better account security".
We all want "better account security", and being able to demonstrate that the community is behind the idea of some changes being made isn't hard to do.
BUT you state this isnt a suggestion thread, yet once you dig into what exactly needs to be done, then we're back to suggestions, and theyre not even new suggestions. toon locks, PlayNc sever, all those things, they've heard before and haven't acted on any of them.
As for the idea that nothing else should get done until this is addressed...sounds great on paper, but the people who actually do skill changes probably arent IT security specialists on the side. They can go ahead and work at what they actually do, while someone who knows what the hell they are doing takes care of the security issue, please and thank-you.
I'm not out to flame you and I am 100% for some very serious security changes, but lets look at what's being said here, threats are threats and it's not how to get things done. also, ANET isn't at fault here, NCSoft is, and I highly doubt ANET has 6 drops of influence in the whole bucket. We're barking up the wrong tree here. They dont own the game and they don't make the call.
You want NCSoft to install security measures? theres only ONE way that's going to happen. Offer to buy some security measures. They arent going to spend a whole 60 cents on securing your imaginary money. They are in a buisness to make real money and they do NOT care. It's that simple.
Youre asking them to sever thier customers from thier store. People dont do that very often.
If you want an effective petition, I'm sorry but this ISNT it.
Make a petition that isnt a threat, that offers them real money, and you may get someone's attention.
Until then, we're doing a lot of barking and not much else.
I've heard a lot of people grasping at the idea that NCSoft might be swayed by threats of withholding money on future purchases, especially GW2. It's very noble, and again, it looks good on paper. It's just plain not going to be effective, however. When GW2 drops, plenty of people are going to buy it, they are not going to lose money on making it. They do NOT depend on GW1 customers carrying over.
But if it makes you feel better,
/signed.
also /signed for buying security measures - including a sever, toon locks, password change security procedures, and several other ideas I've heard suggested.

Even though I feel like being hacked is your own fault. (80% of the time.)

I guess the tone is aggressive, but thats because I like many others are fed up of offering suggestion after suggestion for FOUR years and still we are in the situation we are in.
I know it'll cost money to fix, but trying to win back lost customers costs a lot more.
As I said, there are lots of other suggestion threads in sardelac, so thats the place to discuss things. My petition for example does'nt exlude the possibility of needing to 'buy' hacking insurance.
If you don't agree then don't sign, if you partially agree say so in this thread. If no one signs it then I guess we and Anet know people would rather have other game stuff before this.

If they don't do something about the problems now, who knows what sort of problems we'll have with GW2?

Considering this issue has repeatedly been raised with Anet since at least 2006, my confidence in their willingness to address the matter is low. Having said that,

if my account were to be hacked it would not only be all the time effort and money in game that i would be annoyed about but also all the real money ive put into my account buying the games, expansion, character slots, storage slots, collectors editions bonus missions pack. ive pretty much bought every single upgrade you can buy for your account with the exeption of the proph collectors edition and put my own money into it. it seems from some people i have spoken to that after their accounts have been hacked they have not even got them back. or for others it took them some time to get it back. if my account was taken..i would not buy another account i would give up and probably not buy guild wars 2 either if everything ive worked on for it is wasted

Even tho I have never been hack, seeing all these people getting hack worries me.
So yes, Anet should do something about it.

I'm sick of worrying about being hacked again due to the lack of security measures.

This thread is a good example of why I left guildwars.
No, not because I got hacked (which I actually did get), but the community borders on zealous and mad at the same time, and it's grown into one hell of a monster.
This feels more like a bad politician's attempt to get some ploy than an actual suggestion.
Like many others, I agree that we should be able to play safely and securely, but this is just the wrong way to get the point across.

While I have done everything I can think of doing to keep my account info safe, I am scared to DEATH that I will come home from work some night to find I was hacked. One of the officers in my 2nd account's guild (read that again. It makes sense in a twisted way) was perma-banned for gold-selling, despite the fact that he's never done anything that would resemble gold-selling. (I vouch for his character. Trust me, he would never)
Too often I have heard of people getting hacked, and too often I think "There but for the grace of Dog go I." The time for action has come. As a Guild Wars player (and someone who DOES want to eventually play Guild Wars 2) I say "The line must be drawn HERE. This far, NO FARTHER!"
